About tincan

What is tincan?

tincan lets anyone start a voice call by generating a unique link. Share the link with friends, family, or teammates — they can join instantly from any browser with a microphone. There's nothing to install, no account to create, and no subscription to buy.

Rooms exist only while participants are connected. Once everyone leaves, the room disappears. Nothing is recorded or stored.

How it works

When you create a room, tincan generates a cryptographically random URL that acts as the meeting point. Under the hood, we use LiveKit — a WebRTC infrastructure — to connect participants with end-to-end encrypted audio in real time.

WebRTC is the same open standard used by Zoom, Google Meet, and other modern communication tools. tincan does not store audio on any server. When the connection ends, all session data is deleted.

Privacy commitment

tincan does not record audio. tincan does not collect or store personally identifiable information. The only data required to use the service is your chosen nickname and room ID, which are used solely to establish the WebRTC connection and are never retained after your session ends.

Why "tincan"?

The tin can telephone — two cans connected by a taut string — was one of the earliest ways humans transmitted voice without electricity. It required nothing but simple materials and the physics of sound vibration. We were inspired by that radical simplicity: a tool that just works, with no friction, no complexity.

tincan aspires to be the digital equivalent: open a link, talk to someone, close the tab. That's it.

Supported devices

tincan works on any device with a microphone — PC, smartphone, or tablet. It supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. No app installation required; just open the link in a browser and you're ready to talk.
